“Social justice concerns the social, political and economic aspects and, above all,
the structural dimension of the problems and their respective solutions.”
– Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church no. 201

The Outreach and Advocacy Committee is a group of people from our church who get together to address the needs of the marginalized in our community. To learn more,  please email  [email protected].

ADVOCACY

When we make a donation, we help a small group of people. When we change laws or policies, we can make an even bigger impact. How do we do that?

Our representatives in government need to hear from us. A few letters or emails can make a big difference. The Outreach and Advocacy Committee is forming an email network of people to become informed about and advocate for social justice-related bills in the Maryland General Assembly.

Starting in January, as significant bills are introduced, you’ll get an email with information about the bill, and how to contact legislators if you would like to support or oppose the bill.  There is no obligation to act on any bill.  Please contact Amy Mason at [email protected]. for more information and to join the network.

Breakfast Bags for Beans & Bread: (started at CCSFX 9/2023) Once a month, a dedicated crew of volunteers gathers in the CCSFX Hall with cereal, fruit, bowls, and spoons, to pack up 200 brown bag breakfasts which are then delivered to Beans and Bread. We also provide funds so that fresh milk can be distributed with the bags. Help is always appreciated — whether it’s counting, labeling, packing, or stacking, young and old work together as a team! We usually meet at 4pm before the Saturday evening mass or at 1pm on Sunday, on the “Casseroles for Beans & Bread” weekend, which is listed on the CCSFX Google calendar. Email Nick Russo [email protected]  to join us or for more information.

Blanket Making: (started at CCSFX 10/2024) No-sew fleece blankets are cut, tied, and folded up for donation to area charities to get people through the cold weather with something made with love! We set up the blanket making stations in the CCSFX Hall after Sunday masses so that anyone can stop by for a few minutes to help after grabbing coffee and treats. [So far we’ve met from November through February, but we have supplies, tools, and storage space, so with interest, we can schedule more sessions.] Email Nick Russo  [email protected] to join us or for more information.

Groceries for families of homicide victims: One weekend each month, volunteers from our parish purchase perishable food items for families that have lost a loved one to homicide.   The Archdiocese of Baltimore Grief Ministry partners with the Baltimore Police Department by providing care packages of food. A member of the Baltimore Police Victim Services Unit takes the care package with them when they reach out to a victim’s family.  It gives them something concrete and immediate to offer the family.  CCSFX assists with these care packages once a month.   Volunteers sign up to shop locally (a list is provided) for a family, then bring the items to CCSFX on the weekend. Volunteers do not have to commit to every month – they just sign up when they are available. Items are delivered to Holy Cross where they are added to items from a food pantry. For more information about how you can help support our neighbors at a time of crisis, email Amy Mason at [email protected].
