FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR’S DESK

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we gather together on this 5th Sunday of Easter, let us dwell upon the profound imagery presented to us in today’s Gospel reading: the metaphor of the vine and the branches. In these verses, Jesus invites us to abide in him as branches in a vine, emphasizing the intimate relationship we are called to have with him and the necessity of bearing fruit in accordance with his will.

Jesus declares, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” These words remind us of the vital connection we share with Christ. Just as branches draw their sustenance and life from the vine, so too are we called to draw our strength and purpose from our union with Jesus. It is in abiding in him, in cultivating our relationship with him through prayer, sacraments, and acts of love, that we find the nourishment needed to bear fruit in our lives.

But what does it mean to bear fruit in Christ? The fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—are evident in the lives of those who abide in Christ. They are manifested in acts of compassion, forgiveness, generosity, and service to others. Bearing fruit also entails sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others, inviting them to experience the transformative power of his love and grace.

Let us embrace the call to love one another as Christ has loved us, bearing witness to his presence in our lives and in the world.
